Dell Deaton – Domestic Relations Mediator, Divorce Coach

Many people benefit from participating in professional workshops and support groups with others. You can be one of them.

Participants in my programs typically come away feeling less isolated. They feel heard and respected. Content helps them with perspective and positive self-direction. Facilitated discussions help them make important adjustments to their connections that will be necessarily different after marriages end.

It has to work for you

Let's face it: You schedule was hectic enough before the word "divorce" became commonplace in your daily challenges. A divorce recovery workshop should give you tools for relief — without overloading your Palm Pilot, wall calendar, or sticky notes on the bathroom mirror.

So I offer four kinds of programming (including comprehensive Divorce Recovery Workshops in two formats, see below) through Divorce Reality Group here in Washtenaw County. I am solely responsible for the unique development, presentation, and facilitation for each of these.

You choose the one or more that best suits your lifestyle, information needs, and gut feel. For information on my contract programs at other locations, see below.

This is our comprehensive, 5-week "Divorce Recovery Workshop" addressing the basics of your transition into life after divorce. Participants range from those first considering marital separation, to those still looking for answers sometimes years after their Judgment of Divorces were entered.

We're here to help all of you.

Complete program and materials pricing is $<TBD>/person in advance, or $<TBD>/person at the door (space permitting). All sessions are held at our Saline location.

Divorce Survival Day™

Some people feel left out of great programs simply because they can't commit to a multi-week schedule. Maybe you have a long drive. Work commitments are often a challenge. Or child care (if not coordinating predictable visitation plans) may be what's standing in your way.

Divorce Survival Day is addresses the must-cover areas of our Divorce Reality Workshop 1 in a format you'll complete in just 1 day (approximately 6 hours).

  • Our upcoming Divorce Survival Day schedule: Next dates not yet scheduled.

Complete program and materials pricing is $<TBD>/person in advance, or $<TBD>/person at the door (space permitting). We meet at our Saline location.

Divorce Reality 2: New Attachments

This 3-week "after Divorce Recovery Workshop" addresses the next big question: How do I get it right next time?

Feel free to take this entire program, or register only for the one or two seminar modules most relevant to your situation.

  • Week 1: "Relationship Basics"

  • Week 2: "Dating"

  • Week 3: "Remarriage"

We think you'll find Divorce Realty 2 an invaluable series — even if you aren't currently in a relationship.

  • Our upcoming Divorce Reality 2: New Attachments schedule: Next dates not yet scheduled.

Complete program and materials pricing is $<TBD>/person in advance, or $<TBD>/person at the door (space permitting); register for any one session and materials for $<TBD>/person in advance, or $<TBD>/person at the door (space permitting).

We meet at our Saline location.

Divorce Reality Seminars

Link to pre-registration form

Throughout the year, we offer stand-alone seminars on leading topics of interest in divorce. There are no prerequisites or recommended preparations: We think you'll find the content and discussion applicable wherever you are in your divorce process.

All seminars run 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and are held at our Saline location.

  • "Let Go of Your Divorce"

"Motives and techniques in moving on." Would you be surprised to hear that simple passivity can be one of your most effective tools to achieve this? We'll review practical applications and encourage you on through 17 key reality checks. You can let go — even of the most persistent attachments and post-divorce games.

  • "Divorced Parenting Tips"

...regardless of the age of your "children." We are parents first: Before we are "divorced" parents. Then comes co-parenting, step-parenting, and the differing impacts of divorce on children from younger ages all the way into, yes — the impact of divorce on your children when you divorce even after they've become adults.

  • "Trust after Divorce"

"Watch your step and look out for accidents." Whatever the betrayal that ended the intimacy of your marriage, how can you ever trust anyone again? Answer: By accident (I'm serious). We all believe in something, so this seminar lays out 14 reality checks to increase your chances of believing in the "right" thing.

Key rules and understanding

"Groups" without rules become playgrounds for chaos, opportunities for wolves in sheep's clothing. So, among other things, all of our participants agree:

  • To respect the person and privacy of all others in every group.

  • To refrain from involving others from these groups in your legal affairs (for example, don't ask fellow participants to testify in litigation or put their names on your witness lists).

  • To understand that your continued participation in the group is at the sole discretion of Divorce Reality Group management.

Childcare not provided

We cannot provide childcare (please do not bring children to workshops).

Disclaimer

We reserve the right to deny attendance to any person who, in our sole judgment, is not conducive group dynamics we need to best serve our clients (this has only happened twice — but I've found that it's very important to the ongoing confidence of those who continue to be invested in the group to know that I am absolutely serious here). If we do not accommodate your request to attend, any payment received will be refunded. No individual will be denied attendance based on race, sex, color, religion, creed, national origin or ancestry, age, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, or Vietnam-era status. Also see general terms of use (including privacy statements), which apply to all programs and other aspects of Divorce Reality Group work.

Contract presentations

Yes, I am available to present any of the workshop material listed here — and develop new content for specific needs -- on location. In the past this has included international organizations, local churches, and businesses.
