June 12, 2003 To Whom it May Concern: When Dell Deaton approached me to write a "letter of recommendation" for him, I did not hesitate to say yes. It is my pleasure to take a moment to comment on Dell and the positive impact he has had in my life. I have come to know Dell over the past several months through his work with Divorce Peer Fellowship, a weekly walk-in divorce support group ... that he has facilitated for over two years. I can still clearly recall my first contact with Dell via an email exchange after I discovered Divorce Peer Fellowship on the web. This was at the height of my personal divorce crisis. I hesitantly sent him an email asking for some additional information about the group to better determine if the group was a proper "fit" for me. The welcome that I received from Dell in his response made it clear to me that he was a compassionate man and passionately believed that there was great value in the outreach work that he and Divorce Peer Fellowship were doing. Through my contact with Dell in the support group, I have come to realize that compassion is just one of the many fine traits that Dell possesses. Dell is intelligent, well-spoken, and he is a very effective and efficient communicator. Dell is thoughtful and courteous to all who participate in the group. Dell is a kind, gentle person who understands how difficult an emotional crisis can be for anyone. As I have come to know Dell as a friend, I have learned how dedicated he is to the work that he does. Although Divorce Peer Fellowship meets weekly for two hours, I know that Dell spends a significant amount of time each week outside of the group meeting in private conversations with group participants who are having a particularly difficult time, organizing social functions for the group (outside of the context of the "formal" group meetings), and many other activities that consume a lot of time. I know there are many people who have passed through the doors of Divorce Peer Fellowship that appreciate the work that Dell has done as much as I have. I was very pleased when Dell told me that he was pursuing greater involvement in social outreach on several fronts. Dell is a fine man with a big heart. It is clear to me that he takes great pleasure in helping others, and he does so in a sympathetic, compassionate, and respectful manner.... — Ypsilanti, Michigan |
