To quote an old cliché, we have
here a Rogue’s Gallery of “the usual suspects” in answer to
the question posed by the title of this Michigan Family
Law Journal article by attorney David Finding.
But it’s the closing paragraph
that makes this piece one to quote:
“It is crucial for lawyers to
understand the emotional and psychological reasons why
parents don’t pay child support so they can successfully
counsel clients that may be responding inappropriately to a
support situation.” Or, I might add: To develop appropriate
strategies to help their clients effectively deal with and
counter those emotional and psychological underpinnings.
In other words, just as a client
in divorce may be ill-served to go forward without trained
legal assistance, so, too, it is important to know when
other similarly specialized professionals in specific fields
are needed to achieve best outcomes.
