For
those of us who remember "Watergate," the cautionary phrase warned that the
cover-up can sometimes be the more dangerous thing that takes you down.
In
the world of politics there's often no way of knowing how much substance
sits behind the headlines. And, even if it's all substance, if there will
ever really be true accountability — to pay the piper, as they say.
Notwithstanding, here we have the mayor of Detroit charged with multiple
counts of perjury based on text messages few would have anticipated to see
the light of day. But these were communications in the backdrop of a lawsuit
settled out-of-court (but before the Court) on behalf of the City of
Detroit.
Still think your appearance before the Judge is "just a formality" in a
divorce proceeding?
"'Even children understand that lying is wrong,' Worthy said in a news
conference covered live on national television. 'Honesty and integrity in
the justice system is everything. That is what this case is about.'"
Yup.
You'd better believe it.
