Saturday, January 15, 2005 "Sick children force employers to find temporary childcare for workers," reads one a-ha headline in the current Business Review. Our little cherubs, apparently, aren't giving working parents much notice before they get sick. Employers and independent agencies are responding.
Bottom line, it's in your bosses' best interest to provide and subsidize "emergency daycare" — rather than have you take ad hoc days off from work to handle such necessities. The Business Review piece is motivated by the real challenges faced by working married women with children. Now I'll further fuel this fire by noting that, in any given year, another 1,075,000 children nationwide (by one account) had their parents divorce.
